Rivenmark Sapphire Pendant
$880
A 0.6ct round blue sapphire in a low 14k yellow gold bezel, suspended on an 18-inch 14k yellow cable chain with a small lobster clasp. The bezel wraps the girdle of the stone in a thin continuous collar so the pendant sits flat against the skin and never catches on a sweater or a child's hand. The chain is fine enough to layer over a box chain or under a strand of pearls without crowding either.
The sapphire here is a natural stone rather than a lab-grown one. Lab-grown sapphires are chemically identical to mined sapphires — same crystal structure, same hardness, same blue — and they're an honest, lower-cost choice that Rivenmark uses in some seasonal pieces. For this pendant we chose natural because the small color variation between mined stones gives each piece a slightly different blue, and at this size that variation is part of what the wearer notices over years of looking down at the stone against their collarbone. Natural sapphires also carry the origin story of where the stone was cut and the characteristic silk and color zoning that lab-grown stones rarely replicate at this scale. The stone is sourced through a fair-trade cutter in Sri Lanka and graded internally for color saturation and clarity before setting; we disclose origin and treatment with the piece.
This is a quieter piece in the Rivenmark catalog — the one chosen for the kind of anniversary where blue is the meaningful color, or for the wearer who already owns a diamond pendant and wants something with a different temperature against the skin. It moves easily between layered weekday wear and a single-piece evening, and it tends to become the necklace that doesn't come off.
