Rivenmark Emerald Studs

A pair of 4mm round emerald studs in low four-prong baskets of 14k yellow gold, with friction-fit posts and matching backs. The baskets are open underneath so light enters the pavilion of each stone from behind the ear, lifting the apparent depth of the green. The prongs are filed thin so the stones read as color first and setting second.

Rivenmark uses lab-grown emeralds in this style. The stones are chemically and optically identical to mined emeralds — same beryl crystal, same chromium-vanadium green, same hardness, with their own characteristic growth-pattern inclusions — but they're grown in a controlled hydrothermal environment rather than pulled from a mine, which means we can match the pair more closely for color and clarity than the mined market typically allows at this size, and price the earrings well below what a matched pair of natural 4mm emeralds would cost. We disclose lab origin on every piece. For wearers who specifically want a natural emerald, we offer a made-to-order option in the same setting.

These wear daily without the fragility usually associated with emeralds — at 4mm the stones are small enough to sit close to the lobe and avoid the knocks that crack larger emeralds, and the closed-back basket protects the girdle. They layer easily with a second piercing or a pearl drop, and they tend to become the green that gets noticed second after the wearer's eyes.
